How to Find Brilliant Content Ideas for Social Media

Sharing useful content on your brand’s social media channels is a fantastic way to promote your products and point people to your store.

But, how do you come up with ideas for posts and videos that will engage your audience?

It’s one thing to create and share content, but coming up with the initial ideas is often the hardest part.

But relax! I’m going to show you how I access a never-ending flow of brilliant content ideas.

Check out BuzzSumo

This is my favourite platform for getting awesome ideas for posts. BuzzSumo is a powerful tool that lets you find out what content is popular by topic, it does this by aggregating all social media data for specific posts.

Essentially, it tells you what’s getting people excited or curious in your niche – an insanely valuable thing for a marketer like you to know!

How it works

So, I’ve opened BuzzSumo and entered the keyword ‘calluses’ (a product niche I’m researching). You’re then presented with this screen.

We can see that the top article, ‘How To Make A Baking Soda Foot Soak That Helps Heal Calluses in Just Ten Minutes’, has been engaged with 764 times on Facebook. And if you hover over the number, you get even more info:

This article has been shared 214 times on FB – that’s completely free marketing!

Then, of course, you should check out the article itself and the site it’s featured on, and investigate what have they’ve done that’s created so much buzz.

Now, that you have inspiration, you can create your own version of this tried-and-tested piece. Now, don’t simply copy it, rewrite it in your voice with the key elements from this one – or even shoot a video of you making and using the foot soak.

(I won’t click on the article now. I’m writing this in the morning and it’s too early to see callused feet!)

 The downside to BuzzSumo

I love BuzzSumo, but I won’t lie, it’s pretty expensive. A basic, ‘Pro’ subscription costs $99 a month (USD) and the recommended ‘Plus’ package will set you back $179.

The good news is that you can get a free, 30-day trial which can be cancelled at any time. So, if you’re still interested, I’d advise you to sign up and spend 30 days researching and creating a big list of content ideas that are being shared heaps.

So, there you go. This is by far the quickest and easiest way that I’ve found to get great ideas for my social media content. If you haven’t tried BuzzSumo, give it a go for free (just remember to cancel before the month is up!). If you have any other tips for finding great content ideas, I’d love to hear about them.

Thanks for reading. Virtual hugs and kisses…
