A Simple Guide To Product Inserts

Product inserts are like the cherry on the top of a well-packaged product. Although often disregarded, they can be an effective – and easy – way to build your brand and sell more products.

You’ve been waiting days for this package. When it finally arrives, you tear open the box and pull out the item – along with random bits of paper that cascade on the floor.

Yes. Many of you think nothing of them and throw them away, but for the others that read them, they can be a factor in whether or not they do business with you again.

What’s a product insert?

It’s a small piece of paper that sits inside the package you send to your customers. They’re mostly used to give more information – for example, warranty or guarantee details – or for marketing purposes.

Here are 3 ways you can use product inserts to build your brand and boost your sales

  1. To say, ‘Thank you’

So simple yet so effective. The humble thank you can do wonders for building long-term relationships with your customers.

  1. To get reviews

A kind request to leave a review might be all the encouragement your customers need to do something they otherwise wouldn’t have been bothered to do.

Now, you have to be careful how you ask for reviews as a slip-up could violate Amazon’s terms of service.

Here’s a summary:

  • You must stay neutral. You can only ask for a review – good OR bad. It’s against the rules to say something like, “If you had a positive experience, please leave us a 5-star review.
  • You can’t use manipulative language. Trying to persuade your customers with things like, “Please support local businesses by leaving a review”, is a no-no according to Amazon.
  • You can’t promise a reward for a review. Offering money, discount, freebies etc. is strictly against the rules.
  1. To build your audience

Similar to reviews, it requires a small effort on their part but by encouraging your customers to follow your brand on social media, your blog or, best of all, join your mailing list, you’ll boost your loving fan base.
